Tulsa new work program helps inmates find jobs after prison

Antonio Littlejohn, 39, was released from prison to GPS supervision last fall and wanted a job in Tulsa so he could pay bills and take care of his family, he said.

He filled out application after application, checking the box marked felon to reflect his three incarcerations for Tulsa and Oklahoma County drug convictions. He wanted a chance to prove that he was a changed man, but no one would call him back, he said.

Then he learned about Tulsa’s newly opened office of CEO, an organization providing immediate employment opportunities and job training to men and women leaving prison.

Three transitional CEO work crews provide litter cleanup, neighborhood beautification, landscaping and other duties for public-sector partners including the Metropolitan Environmental Trust, Tulsa County and the cities of Sand Springs and Jenks.

Littlejohn received forklift operator training through Goodwill Industries, and CEO helped him get a job working the forklift at a Metropolitan Environmental Trust recycling facility.

“This time, I’m not alone,” he said.

Since starting the job in December, Littlejohn hasn’t missed a day of work or be……….. continues on Tulsa World.
