A report from Leavenworth Times:
The Leavenworth County Commission Thursday voted to take part in a new program that could help residents of the county find jobs.
The Work Experience Program is run by the state’s department of Social and Rehabilitative Services. According to county Human Resources Director Diane Collins, the program is based around the idea of providing those with minimal skills in a given area the chance to train on the job.
“It’s a training opportunity for a pool of people they have that have had difficulty or potential difficulty on the workforce,” she said. “Maybe their difficulty is that they can’t find child care, they can’t find transportation. SRS will assist them.”
According to Collins, those who are accepted to the program would be part-time employees working about 20 hours a week for the county. They would be interviewed before starting and if hired their pay and workers’ compensation insurance would be completely paid by the state.
The workers then work regular hours to hone skills in a given area. Sometimes, she said those entities participating hire the interns. But the program can give those interns work experience and a reference to use in future job searches.
Collins stated in a briefing report about the program that three county departments……….. continues on Leavenworth Times.
