Gina R. Dela Cruz has been job hunting since she was laid off in April from her job as a secretary at a real estate company. Dela Cruz, who is 60, said it was hard to feel confidence as an applicant in such a difficult market.
“No, it isn’t easy,” she said. “You just have to be proactive.”
So when she heard at the employment security office about a new job training, she signed up.
Last month, Dela Cruz graduated from the first session of the program at River Valley Community College’s Keene campus.
WorkReadyNH is a three-week course that covers “soft skills” — things such as communication, problem solving and conflict resolution and safety.
These are critical yet often overlooked skill for job seekers, according to Martha B. Mott, the WorkReadyNH coordinator at River Valley.
River Valley is one of four community colleges in the state offering the program. It is the final phase of Gov. John H. Lynch’s three-part job initiative designed to help companies and workers avoid layoffs, help unemplo……….. continues on The Keene Sentinel.
